When I grow up, I want to be Susanne Gibboney.

onechordprogression:

Tiger! Tiger!’s hot bass mama Susanne Gibboney wins the most awesome interview award this week because she sent us a MULTIMEDIA INTERVIEW complete with photos and videos to accompany every answer. We were so excited we cried a little.

Tiger! Tiger! | “Perfume of Despair”

Brand new track off of their upcoming album, Cut Them Where They Bleed! It’s about damn time! I heard this one live at the Missing Link show when they were opening for Mastodon. Ahh, good times. Also, the album is sporting some sweet cover art from Baroness’ John Dyer Baizley.

Cut Them Where They Bleed arrives in stores on March 13, and there will be a CD release part at the Star Bar in ATL. Guess whose spring break is during that week? Mine! Whose hubby will be in town because Mastodon are done with touring for the month of March? Susanne’s! Let the party begin.

+ fuckyeahbaroness:

Atlanta garage rockers Tiger! Tiger! got John Dyer Baizley to do the artwork for their new CD, Cut Them Where They Bleed. Those of you who saw them at Mastodon’s Missing Link fest this year know that this is another Susanne Gibboney project - she is Brann Dailor’s wife and a killer musician in her own right.

Really want to hear the new stuff they’ve been working on. I think they debuted a couple of new tunes at the Mastodon show, but it will be cool to hear the recordings. Of course, getting Baizley to do the album art is going to get them a lot of attention. Can’t wait!

+ MISSING LINK FESTIVAL WITH MASTODON, DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, AND MANY OTHERS
Damn, damn, DAMN. What a show. There’s so much that happened last night that I’m having a hard time figuring out how to organize this article, but I guess I’ll just divide each band’s set into sections:
MonstrO

MonstrO are a very new band comprised of very talented, experienced musicians. Their sound is straight-up vintage stoner metal with psychedelic touches, and I enjoyed it. Kyle’s dreds were a sight to behold in person. Juan Montoya (formerly of Torche) spotted me in the crowd and make a silly face at me, which was awesome in itself. However, the most amazing part of their set is when William DuVall from Alice in Chains came onstage to sing a song with the band:

Also, Kyle’s little son came out on stage and rocked out with daddy. So adorable!
Tiger! Tiger!

Garage rockers Tiger! Tiger! were excellent. Of course, this is another Susanne Gibboney project, and she never disappoints. At first, the crowd wasn’t feeling them much, but as time went on, they won everybody over. Susanne winked at me twice (another awesome musician-fan connection). Brann Dailor was standing on the balcony above Susanne on stage, and she sang a song to him, which was another adorable moment. They are one of the cutest husband-wife musician teams in music today. Really enjoyed myself during Tiger! Tiger!’s set.
Red Fang

I’m not afraid to admit it - Red Fang’s set made me hot. Their music has this sexy, slow groove live that made me think that it would be idea baby-making music. I lost my shit during “Prehistoric Dog”, and I got footage of their performance of “Wires”, which you can see HERE. They sound better live than in recordings, and I was immensely impressed. Really wanted to meet them, but they were exhausted and probably wanted to just haul ass back to Oregon. Understandable on all counts.
Dillinger Escape Plan

Two words sum up their set: insane and amazing. They absolutely blew me away. Surprisingly, the pit didn’t wipe me out, either. Greg is such a dynamic front-man, and very versatile, too - many critics of the band fail to recognize that Greg can really fucking sing, and he has an incredible voice in live performances. I also liked how they taunted the crowd to get everybody riled up, and when Greg stage dived, it was chaotic bliss. Seeing Ben in person was great too, because…well, he’s sexy. And Jewish. I like sexy Jewish musicians (see Troy Sanders). He did this little hip-wiggle during “Chinese Whispers” that drove me wild. Anyway, seeing one of my favorite bands since High School live for the first time was an amazing experience. Fuck yeah DEP.
Black Lips
Didn’t get any pictures of their set, because I was trying to save camera power for Mastodon. I liked them okay before seeing them live, but I wound up getting pissed off during their set. They have some absolute shit fans who don’t know how to act properly at a live show - one guy would NOT shut up and kept holding these long, droning notes to get their attention, and another guy was running around spraying everyone with beer. Completely obnoxious. I was ready for Mastodon to take the stage and forget about Black Lips and their mess of a fan base.
Mastodon

Mastodon were absolutely incredible. This is honestly the best live performance I have ever heard them give, and all four members of the band, even Brent, gave 110% into every song. Troy actually hit the high notes in “Black Tongue” and didn’t screw up once, and Brent looked so damn happy to be up there. He smiled at me a couple of times, and his singing was actually on-key and enthusiastic. They stuck to the same setlist as most of the rest of the tour, but there were some surprises, like “Circle of Cysquatch”. I got some footage of Colony of Birchmen and Blasteroid, which I’ll upload some time in the future.
For an encore, they brought their family members, all the other bands, William DuVall, and Laura Pleasants from Kylesa on stage to sing “Creature Lives”, and then balloons were dropped.
All in all, it was an incredible show, and I’m so glad that I was able to be there in the middle of the action. Talking to Brann before the show was great - I got another skinny drummer hug and a lot of reassurance. I’m sleep-depraved and wiped out, but last night was worth it.

Tiger! Tiger | “Fire Exits”

Another band on the bill for the Missing Link ATL show, with Brann’s wife Susanne on bass. Haven’t seen these guys (and gals) live yet, so this will be a treat! This is one of my favorite songs of theirs, so I thought I’d share it. Don’t worry, I bought it legally :)

Three more weeks!

Tiger! Tiger! - “Cheap Imitation” live in ATL, 11-29-06

T-30 days until the big Missing Link show…can’t wait can’t wait can’t wait can’t wait!!!
