Rwake | “Unleashing Cosmic Destruction”

One of their “weirder” ones and definitely a personal favorite.

+ 1. Name: BRITTANY “B” FUGATE2. Bands you’ve played in:Rwake, All Called Liar (everything else was/is just jamroom jams).3. What are your favorite songs to perform live?I could say Crooked Rivers etc. But really any one of our songs is my favorite. There is no high that compares to playing a live show. I love feeding off the energy of the crowd and the stage. When we all lock in together, it creates a feeling of a united front of energy. One so powerful, that it feels as if we could crush the world w/one note. So that’s hard to define to just one song.4. Who were your female rock idols growing up?Does Poison count? I thought they were girls for a long time. But honestly, all my rock idols were guys. I did have a lot of respect though for bands like Babes In Toyland and Sonic Youth. (I’d be lying if I said Lita Ford and I only wish I could say The Great Kat).5. Your advice to any woman or girl who wants to start her own metal band is…Don’t let your gender define your role in the band. Hard work and unrelenting practice get you a lot more respect than a bunch of solo-pictures of yourself. And surround yourself w/band mates that feel the same. Put in hard work and load gear just like the next guy. Not because you have something to prove, but because the music deserves that respect. I value the fact that I get treated just like everyone else in my band and hopefully you will too.

New song “It Was Beautiful, But Now It’s Sour” from one of my personal favorite bands out there RWAKE! Check it out via NPR, it will not disappoint!

IT’S. ABOUT. DAMN. TIME.

+ The B probably stands for “Badass”
(Actually, I know what the B really stands for, but some things are better left as a mystery :3)

+ WOMEN OF SLUDGE METAL APPRECIATION WEEK BEGINS TODAY
Stay tuned to my blog all week for audio, video, articles, photos, and other content celebrating women on the Sludge/Stoner/Doom/Post metal underground, including exclusive interviews with some of the women on the scene. This collage represents only a small fraction of the women out on the scene…there are so many and the number will only grow in future years.
IN THIS COLLAGE, FROM LEFT TO RIGHT:
Row 1: Laura Pleasants (Kylesa), B (Rwake), Lori “The Lorax” Black (Melvins), Sophie Willett (Alunah), Amber Valentine (Jucifer)
Row 2: Chiyo Nukaga (Noothgrush/Graves at Sea), Liz Buckingham (13/Sourvein/Electric Wizard), Julie Christmas (Made out of Babies/Battle Of Mice), Kira Roessler (Black Flag), Zohra Atash (A Storm Of Light)
Row 3: Stevie Floyd (Dark Castle), Yoshiko Ohara (Bloody Panda), Andrea Black (Howl), Alicia Morgan (13), Therese Lanz (Mares of Thrace/KEN Mode)
Row 4: Aubrey Debauchery (Abominable Iron Sloth), Ellen Mieczkowski (13), Katherine Katz (Salome), Wata (Boris), Jarboe (Swans/Neurosis & Jarboe)
Row 5: Victoria Scalisi (Damad), Taz Corona-Brown and Hel Sterne (Undersmile), Lori S. (Acid King), Stefani MacKichon (Mares of Thrace), and Claire Horrocks (Bastard of the Skies)

Leviticus by Rwake

You can’t handle the heavy that this song projects.

+ fuckyeahmastodon:

Now when someone asks “Hey baby, what’s your sign?” you can give them a cooler answer.

I’m a Neurosis ;)
Actually I made this in response to another “band zodiac” thing floating around here on Tumblr just for the fun of it. What’s your sign?

Rwake - Smog Monster

Probably not everyone’s cup of tea, especially those who hate Relapse ( with good reason) but fuck me, this song is awesome.

This song shows off quite a bit of what B can do - she the high-pitched voice screeching in the back.

+ B, keyboardist and vocalist for Arkansas outfit Rwake. No one knows her real name (aside from family and band members, I suppose). Whoever she really is, she’s pretty badass!
