Tired.
Sweepy Buzzo is sweepy.
Kind of sad, because it looks like I’m going to have to miss the Melvins show this Friday. Simply put, I just don’t have the money. I’m off from work for the next two weeks without pay and I have bills, etc. Unless somebody wants to treat me, it can’t happen. Le sigh.
the Melvins with Kurt
1. Buzz’ beret is ridiculous
2. Lorax looks seriously zonked out
3. Kurt is a total creeper
4. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN HERE (even though I was like four years old when this was taken, but whatever).
Now that I’m almost done with college forever (I graduate in two weeks!), I can go back to focusing on going to shows while also mercilessly searching for a new job and trying to re-locate to Atlanta permanently. Here’s what’s on my calendar:
- Baroness/Royal Thunder @ The End, Nashville, April 27
- Melvins/Unsane @ Exit/Inn, Nashville, May 4
- Torche/A Storm Of Light @ 529, Atlanta, May 11
- Mastodon/Opeth/Ghost @ The Masquerade, Atlanta, May 12
- Heartwood Music Festival, South Pittsburgh, May 17
- Iron Maiden/Alice Cooper @ Aaron’s Amphitheater, Atlanta, June 23
Special note about the Heartwood Music Festival: My friends Robbie and Jamie will be playing this festival in their band Sickness in the System, and it’s actually three days long, but I don’t know if I’ll stay for the whole festival. Check out some info about SITS through their Facebook page HERE.
You don’t have to do drugs to enjoy metal. SHOCKER!

In the lead-up to next week’s release of the trade paperback edition of Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral History of Grunge (out March 13; order info here), I’ve been sharing…
I had no idea that the early days of Melvins was so full of…drama. Matt Lukin just sounds kind of whiny IMO, but I can understand the aggravation. Ultimately, Melvins is just the Buzz Osborne show, and whoever wants to tag along can as long as you do what he tells you to do. I think that Lori was a better bassist (listen to her work with Clown Alley - girlfriend could slap the shit out of that thing), and Montesano is a shitty town, but Buzz and Dale could have made the transition a little less painful for everyone involved.
Melvins | “We Are Doomed” (New Track!)
The new music keeps coming and coming and coming and coming and…seriously, I’m kind of overwhelmed by all the bands releasing new material in the next two months. Every day there’s a new song surfacing that I feel obliged to link here for blog readers to devour. Melvins should satisfy your appetites, right?

Money has been extremely tight lately (yay eating M&Ms, ramen noodles, and ham sandwiches!), but there are five gigs coming up that I’m going to try my damndest not to miss:
- JUCIFER, March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day), The Earl, ATL
- BARONESS, April 27, Exit/In, Nashville
- MELVINS/UNSANE, May 4, Exit/In, Nashville
- MASTODON/OPETH, May 12, Masquerade, ATL
- SICKNESS IN THE SYSTEM, May 17, Heartwood Music Festival, South Pittsburgh, TN
Show #1 occurs during my Spring Break, so that should be one hell of a time. Show #2 is the day after I finish all of my college finals. Show #3 is the night before my college graduation ceremony, and show #4 is the week after I graduate. Show #5 is a few days before my birthday. In other words, all of these shows correlate to something I can feel good about having achieved.
If anybody in Nashville or Atlanta reads this, is there a way I could crash at your place for the night for a couple of these shows? I might have to travel alone and might not have a way back during the night.
My two graduation presents are going to be:
Melvins + Unsane, Nashville, May 4
Mastodon + Opeth, Atlanta, May 12
Sweet rewards for all of my precious, precious hard work. Then it’s straight into even more work, apartment hunting, and…gaaaah. The last half of this year is going to be mayhem. Please wish me luck in relocating to Atlanta and finding a good job there.
‘Sup?
That awkward moment when Buzzo can’t make up his mind which item to order off of Taco Bell’s late night menu.
