You know what rules? Kind people rule.
I do not know how to be one of those yet, but Therese Lanz does.
Therese Lanz is a kind person.
She is one of the few people in bands that has reached out to me beyond the whole “artist/fan” relationship I typically have with others.
She actually gives a damn about what’s going on in my life and is willing to help out so that things might get better.
She doesn’t just expect me to just promote her music non-stop and go on about my merry business.
No, Therese Lanz actually gives a shit.
That is a very good feeling to have, knowing that an older, talented woman in a band you really like actually gives a shit if you live or die.
Thanks, Therese. Thanks so much for talking me out of suicide.
Thank you for being a kind person. You rock.
1. NAME: THERESE LANZ
2. Bands you’ve played in:
A ton of ‘em. The main ones have been Kilbourne (which was punk/hardcore), iOLE! (which was weird tech-sludge), Exit Strategy (death-grind), and Mares of Thrace (doom-sludge-core). I also moonlighted in KEN mode (heavy noise rock).
3. What are your favorite songs to perform live?
The heavy ones!
4. Who were your female rock idols growing up?
Lots of ‘em. I was a young teen when Riot Grrrl first started happening; that totally changed my life. The entire Pacific Northwest scene of the early-mid 1990s for sure.
5. Your advice to any woman or girl who wants to start her own metal band is…
Just forget all the horseshit and be really good at what you do. Everything else will follow.
Hmm, I just now noticed that another woman in the realm of sludge, KEN Mode bassist and Mares of Thrace front woman Threse Lanz, has decided to go the pinup route for Revolver’s Hottest Chicks in Metal Hard Rock feature. I didn’t even know about this until I was grocery shopping yesterday. I picked up the latest Revolver out of boredom, and BAM! There’s Therese right in my face.
Liz Buckingham, Julie Christmas, and Stevie Floyd have all appeared in this feature at well, but none of them took their clothes off. Most were just head shots and interview-centric. As fearsome as Therese’s vocals and riffs are, I’m not really sure how I feel about this =/
