Made out of Babies | “Ire Fire”

It’s just heart-breaking to me that MooB broke up, and even more so since they didn’t even release their completed fourth album. Julie won’t speak on matters much, but my guess is that she just enjoys being a solo artist more than being in a structured band…heh. I thought she and Brandon Tobin played off of each other really well. He had the bonkers guitars and she had the bonkers vocals. You can definitely hear that dynamic in this song. Please crank this song to 11 and light your candles of mourning for another band gone too soon.

Made out of Babies - “Sugar”

Women of Sludge Metal Appreciation Week, Part III Starts September 19th!!!

Pretty excited about starting this feature up again, and the Facebook group has helped me to find more amazing women to interview. This time around, there should be some more special content. Every time I do this, it gets a little bigger and bigger, and I couldn’t be happier :)

Artists who are slated to be interviewed this time around include B (Rwake), Therese Lanz (KEN Mode, Mares of Thrace), Alicia Morgan (13), Meg Castellanos (Totimoshi) and the ladies of Seattle doom trio Grey. I’m also aiming to get Lori from Acid King this time around, seeing as how her touring schedule prevented her from being interviewed last April. We’ll see!

Actually, the interview with B (Rwake vocalist/keyboardist) was completed last night and she told me that once I post it up, she’ll send the link to Relapse :3

In the meantime while I sort all of this stuff out, check out some interviews I did during Part II:

Stevie Floyd (Dark Castle)

Sophie Willett (Alunah)

Julie Christmas (Made out of Babies/Battle of Mice)

Kelly Gabany (Vulture)

Laura Pleasants (Kylesa)

Taz Corona-Brown and Hel Sterne (Undersmile)

Amber Valentine (Jucifer)

Chiyo Nukaga (Noothgrush, Graves at Sea, a million other bands!)

Claire Horrocks (Bastard of the Skies)

Liz Buckingham (13, Sourvein, Electric Wizard)

Enjoy!

Is this the day the new Baroness and Made out of Babies albums are going to come?

You know, it’s kind of confusing. Last January while in Atlanta, I was in the Borders close to Lenox Square Mall looking through an issue of either Metal Hammer or Terrorizer (can’t remember which), but they had a feature called “The Most Anticipated Albums of 2011”. Baroness were listed with a “winter/spring” promise. Also, Revolver had reported that Made out of Babies already had eight songs completed for their follow-up to 2008’s The Ruiner, and that it was supposed to see a release date in mid-2011.

Winter and Spring passed, and there was no Baroness album. There were a few teasers from the band, especially in the videos posted to their official Tumblr. Still there was no formal announcement made about a new album, no artwork, no nothing - just peculiar 15-second videos of the band rehearsing.

I’ve also heard absolutely nothing about a new Made out of Babies album since. The band doesn’t exactly update their Facebook or Myspace pages that often, so fans are kind of left in the dark on this one. Julie Christmas did a solo tour in Europe earlier this year, but I don’t know what girlfriend is up to now. If you read this, what are you working on? Is there a new MOOB album in the not-so-distant future?

Now I do have members of both bands as friends on Facebook, but it’s kind of rude just to message them with “HEY GUYS WHEN’S THE NEW ALBUM COMING OUT?”. Artists don’t like to be rushed. Still…I’m getting antsy.

Does anybody have info on either album and what might be happening with each of them, or do you have theories?

MADE OUT OF BABIES - “IRE FIRE” live at CBGB, 2004

Just found this footage today…

…Have you ever walked down a street with new asphalt in triple-digit degree weather in the middle of July, and you become so light-headed from the smell and the heat that you don’t even notice a steamroller heading straight towards you? This song is what that sounds like.
