Tiger! Tiger! | “Perfume of Despair”
Brand new track off of their upcoming album, Cut Them Where They Bleed! It’s about damn time! I heard this one live at the Missing Link show when they were opening for Mastodon. Ahh, good times. Also, the album is sporting some sweet cover art from Baroness’ John Dyer Baizley.
Cut Them Where They Bleed arrives in stores on March 13, and there will be a CD release part at the Star Bar in ATL. Guess whose spring break is during that week? Mine! Whose hubby will be in town because Mastodon are done with touring for the month of March? Susanne’s! Let the party begin.
Everyone who actually knows a thing or two about the history of rock music has seen this famous photo of Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley making music together while Sam Phillips is presumably rolling around in a giant stack of gold coins just off-frame. These four rock pioneers were called the Million Dollar Quartet back in their day for taking black music and making it popular with white kids all across America and eventually the world, and maybe even the underworld (you know they all went to Hell, right?).
For some odd reason, the other day I got the random idea of recreating this photo with the leaders of the Little Four of Sludge Metal. Matt Pike would be Jerry Lee Lewis, Brent Hinds would be Carl Perkins with the guitar, John Dyer Baizley would be Johnny Cash, and Laura Pleasants would be Elvis Presley with the piano. I don’t mean that all four of them would dress up like the Million Dollar Quartet (although seeing Laura with Elvis hair would be LOL-worthy), but I would like to have them posed exactly like this with the exact same instruments. It would be a fun photo shoot for everybody involved.
I have Laura and Brent as friends on Facebook, so pitching this idea to them wouldn’t be too hard, even if they do laugh at it. John Dyer Baizley has a Facebook, but doesn’t add fans and is very private, so it would be hard to get him on board for something so frivolous. Matt Pike…has no social networking outposts. I mean, it’s Matt fucking Pike. He probably doesn’t even know what a computer is.
Anyway, I would still love to get all four of them in the same room and re-create this classic photo as the new profile image for the Little Four Love page on Facebook. Anybody like this idea?
Atlanta garage rockers Tiger! Tiger! got John Dyer Baizley to do the artwork for their new CD, Cut Them Where They Bleed. Those of you who saw them at Mastodon’s Missing Link fest this year know that this is another Susanne Gibboney project - she is Brann Dailor’s wife and a killer musician in her own right.

Really want to hear the new stuff they’ve been working on. I think they debuted a couple of new tunes at the Mastodon show, but it will be cool to hear the recordings. Of course, getting Baizley to do the album art is going to get them a lot of attention. Can’t wait!
Scott Kelly of Neurosis and John Baizley of Baroness will be doing an acoustic tour in February. Best.

Australia, I hate your guts right now. This is a tour I’d kill to see.
Why do I love photos of them together so much? They always seem like they’re happy together, like some very sludgy yin and yang. Very rad bromance.
OH GOD IT JUST FEELS SO GOOD
When men make expressions like this, it reminds me that I am in fact heterosexual.
YOU BETTER SHUT THE FUCK UP WHEN I’M TALKING TO YOU!
