When I grow up, I want to be Susanne Gibboney.

Brann from Mastodon calls his mom. Thisomehow manages to be the metal-est and cutest thing simultaneously.

This is too adorkable. DAILORS DOING DAILOR THINGS.

Four voices, four great men.

One of the things I love so much about Mastodon is that all four members of the band can sing and have shared lead vocals on songs. How many other metal bands can do that these days?

Lethargy | “Subtle”

To my knowledge, none of my followers have ever posted about Lethargy. Which disappoints me. Mad-as-fuck grindy sludgy mathcore stuff, the band Bill and Brann were in together before Mastodon. You can really hear where some of the sounds on Leviathan and Remission came from in here.

It’s also bugfuck insane.

Brann was a beast even as a wee 19-year-old. Also, check out Bill doing the odd time signature shit a la Ben Weinman.

My top 10 favorite lyricists of the past 20 years (in no particular order):

  1. Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy)
  2. Brann Dailor (Mastodon)
  3. Daron Malakian (System of a Down)
  4. Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth)
  5. Scott Kelly (Neurosis)
  6. Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls)
  7. Keith Buckley (Every Time I Die)
  8. Courtney Love (Hole)
  9. Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains)
  10. Stefani Germanotta (Lady Gaga).

Happy Birthday, dear Brann. Just 2 simple words: thank you.

I can’t not reblog this picture. Love you, Brann. Love you and your wife to pieces. Thanks for being such kind, patient people. See you again in two weeks.

I think I’ve fallen in love with this man. Well, at least I’m in love with his music and his voice. The prospect of a possible Mastodon and Opeth tour gives me a huge glimmer of hope for the months to come. Considering that I am taking six classes right now and this is my last semester of college before I graduate in May, a Mastodon/Opeth show would be a great graduation present.
Add in a full work schedule and rehearsals with the new band I’m in (I’m the front woman!), there is little time for play. Still, late at night, I think about Mikael’s voice and just feel warm and fuzzy all over. He is beyond amazing. If I see Brann at that show, I will literally beg him to let me back stage so I can meet Opeth, Mikael especially. Seeing Brann and Mikael together might make me faint. So much talent concentrated in one space.
…Heh, but enough of my babbling. Also, Melvins are playing a show with Unsane in Nashville the night before my graduation ceremony on May 5th. Maybe if I’m a good girl, I’ll get two Graduation presents :3

Young Brann Dailor, filmed during the tour with Napalm Death in 1999.

He was about my age here. He kind of looks the same, but he is not the same guy. This is a very serious Brann that just looks pissed off at the world. It definitely isn’t the Brann I’ve come to know recently who seems much more at peace with himself. Anyway, it’s an interesting video if you’ve ever wanted to get a glimpse of Brann in his young and very wasted youth.
